1/3 of the way around the planet. 4 university colleagues. A decommissioned ambulance.
What do all of these things have in common?
Check out this event (and join us on Friday November 26th!) …. Calgary area rally competitors Leanne Junnila and Eric Grochowski are participating in the Mongol charity rally in July 2011! They are kicking off their fundraising with a film from a team that did the event in 2009. Full details on the attached pdf. 2011 Mongol Rally Film Screening and Fundraiser
Well, it’s official: we are driving to Mongolia! Approximately 10,000 miles, across 1/3 of the planet, in a decommissioned ambulance. Wait…how is that even possible?! And why on earth would anyone want to do that?! For charity of course!
It’s called the Mongol Rally, and teams drive from London England to Mongolia to raise money for Mongolian development projects (in support of the Christina Noble Children’s Fund). Poverty is no fun, especially when you’re a kid. The reason we are taking an ambulance is because the vehicle will be donated at the end, repaired, and put back into service. Double charity!
Now, this type of operation involves a LOT of fundraising, so we want to invite you to our official kickoff party! A crazy group of Calgarians had this same irrational idea in 2009 and made a film of their experience called “Drive By Shooting”. Relax…no Calgarians were harmed in the making of this film. We’ll be screening their film, and the infamous team will be there in person to answer your questions & queries afterwards!
It is expected to be a fun evening of beer, munchies, and if you think Calgarian drivers are crazy just wait until you see the Iranian ones!
Please join us – your personal invitation is attached. Note: buy your tickets early, seating is limited! Also, please let us know if you can’t make it to this event but would like to join the mailing list for future events.
Peace out.
